MEMBER CERTIFICATION
Each member of the WMSOA must be certified to officiate scholastic soccer matches. Certification requires several annual procedures.
First, the member must enjoy good standing in the WMSOA. That is, the member must have participated in the instructional class of the WMSOA or that of another MISOA association, paid the annual dues of the association, observed all WMSOA and MIAA rules and protocols, and attended a rules interpretation meeting of the WMSOA.
Secondly, the member must be registered with the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association. The registration procedure requires several actions. Go to the MIAA website. The address of that site is https://miaa.net. At the MIAA site, click on Officials in the menu at the top of the home page. Then, when a new page appears, click on the Arbiter Sports icon on the left side of the page. The icon notes that game official registration and the necessary background check can be accomplished at this site.
At the Arbiter Sports site, check the box next to the word Soccer to indicate registration for that sport.
Finally, registration requires payment of a $10 fee via credit card. Also, the MIAA requires a game official to have a background check at the time of the first registration and every three years, thereafter. The background check fee is $35.
Thirdly, a member must have annual concussion training. Concussion training is offered by the National Federation of High Schools at the insructional site of that association. The address of that site is https://nfhslearn.com. A member must create an account at the NFHS site in order to enjoy instruction, there.
To take the Concussion course, click on the Courses icon in the menu at the top of the home page. At the courses page, type Concussion in Sports in the search box. Then, Order the course. The course is a 60 minute video presentation with a ten question test at the conclusion of the offering.
After completion of the Concussion in Sports course, download the certificate of completion and forward that document to Keith Lepine, whose email address is kjlepine@yahoo.com.
