The referees of the Western Massachusetts Soccer Association shall be
attired in the association uniform when they officiate high
school matches. Generally, this uniform is that approved currently by the United States Soccer
Federation. In addition, of course, the jersey should include a WMSOA
patch when officiating a scholastic contest.
The primary jersey worn by WMSOA referees shall be gold. If either team
is attired in gold shirts or has significant gold trim on their jerseys,
the referees shall wear green jerseys.
The jerseys may have either short or long sleeves.
Also, the referees shall wear
black shorts, black stockings with three white stripes, and black athletic
shoes. In addition, the WMSOA officials may wear a black warm-up suit
when they enter and leave the field. Furthermore, of course, our
officials may wear hats, visors, and gloves, if weather conditions recommend
such items. Similarly, cold and/or wet weather clothing is acceptable,
when necessary. Finally, warm-up or rain pants may be worn during play
when conditions warrant.
Importantly, however, all
accessory clothing shall be black. Moreover, cold weather clothing
should be worn under the official's jersey. These two requirements are
purposeful. They enable our officials to be noticed as little as
possible, to be dressed similarly, and to be recognizable easily to one another
and to players.
Similarly, the officiating
accessories used by WMSOA members shall be black. The WMSOA recommends
the use of a black Fox 40 whistle by our members. The lanyard used to
affix the whistle to an official's wrist should be black. Similarly, the
wrist watches used by WMSOA members should be black. Finally, WMSOA
members should carry wallets with cards and score pads. Those wallets
should be black.
WMSOA officials may purchase
their uniforms from any of a number of online suppliers referee uniforms and
equipment. Official Sports International is the most notable supplier of referee apparel and equipment, but other sites, including Amazon, offer USSF jerseys and other acceptable equipment.
